"So far, I have used this drill for about three years and on a project. It is sufficient for only thin materials, due to high levels of vibration, and lack of precision of manufacture. - The chuck does not run true on its axis. Putting a new bit in the chuck and rotating it shows this misalignment. This drill ovals holes as a result. - The safety guard broke off after a few months, due to high levels of vibration causing the extremely thin and hard ABS(?) hinges to crack. The guard was heavily spring loaded, and I'm would have eventually broken anyway, just from the severity of snapping into place. Since the guard limits the usage with larger materials, I am not too sorry to loose it. Use safety glasses instead. - The wingnuts on the safety guard vibrated out, due to excessive vibration. Replacing with nylocs helped, since the retaining screws can't really be tight if you want the guard to slide properly. - The depth gauge broke off, again due to excessive vibration. The depth gauge was not really usable anyway, since it is not sufficiently rigid to register the same depth twice. Instead, put tape around the drill bit as a depth marker. - There is excessive vibration, and slight end play in the chuck, probably due to lack of bearings. - The table markings for rotation are just stickers, and are not sufficiently accurate for precision alignment. - The table is not quite perpendicular to the post, on the axis on which no adjustment is possible. This will lead to slightly diagonal holes, and makes it unsuitable for thicker materials if precision is an issue. - There are sharp edges on the springs and plastic of the guard, that lead to regular grazes. Wear work gloves when using. - The table is a metal casting with re-enforcing flanges on the lower side. The flanges make it difficult to clamp anything to the table, since there is no flat surface on the lower side of the table. There are slots in the table casting that are suitable for bolts, but the didn't seem to align with any of the drill press vices I have, and are too close together for larger materials. - Speed is adjustable by moving the belt between different pulleys. Low chuck speeds are possible, making it useful for operating a circle cutter, and reasonably high speeds are selectable, which are much better for aluminium alloys. - The handles for adjusting depth vibrate loose. Sort with some thread locking paste, or just spot weld them."
"I have just got this drill i got it to sharpen my Chisels and plane blades. i put a grinder in the chuck and tilt the base plate. gives me a first class finish to my planes and chisels. and of course you can drill holes with it."
"The other reviewers must be unluckly my one works fine +/- 0.010" every time on aluminium and mild steel, I even use it for light milling. It could do with a longer back post but for £65 its good value."
"This drill is very disappointing. The chuck runs out of true by nearly half a millimetre. Therefore it is very difficult to accurately start a hole in the true location. Because of the chuck inaccuracy all hole diameters are cut oversize. The runout makes the use of small diameter drill bits very tricky with a high risk of breakage. The depth stop is a very flimsy plastic and so the stop is not consistent. It is virtually impossible to drill 2 blind holes to the same depth. The vibration levels are very high. It shakes everything in my workshop and must be securely mounted to the bench otherwise it will go for a stroll around the place."
