How do you attach fence panels to wooden posts?

All you need to do is position the panel between your posts, making sure it’s completely level before attaching the panel’s rails into your posts using galvanised screws or nails. To make alignment even easier, you can use brackets or clips instead. Make sure your panel is properly secure against your posts before you finish your project.

How to stop fence panels rattling 

To stop your fence from rattling, you need to make sure the panels are secured securely and tightly to the fence post. If you notice your fence rattling then you should check all the screws, nails or brackets that are holding the panels in place and tighten or replace where needed. Another option is to add a wooden batten where the panel meets the post as this can help reduce movement and make the panel fit even more tightly. 

How to cut a fence panel

The method you use could potentially change depending on the type of panel you’re using. However, as a general rule of thumb, you need to first measure the gap between the posts and mark a straight cutting line, leaving a small allowance so it fits seamlessly. Lay the panel flat on a stable surface, then use a handsaw or circular saw to cut through the frame and slats, keeping the cut as straight as possible with a guide.

How to disguise a fence panel

Your best option for disguising a fence panel is to use climbing plants such as ivy and vines. You could also add hedges, shrubs or trees in front of the fence.

How long is a fence panel?

Fence panels vary in length, but the standard UK length is 6 feet (1.83 metres). You can also commonly find 3ft, 4ft and 5ft.

How do you fit fence panels into concrete posts?

Fitting fence panels into concrete posts is straightforward. Follow these steps:

1. Insert your gravel board into the post grooves by sliding it in (if applicable).
2. Lift the panel upright and tilt it slightly before slotting one side into the groove of the first concrete post.
3. Flex or lift the panel just enough to be able to slide the other side into the groove on the second post.
4. You can begin to lower the panel, ensuring it’s sitting securely on the gravel board or ground supports.
5. Finally, add wedges or panel clips to reduce any movement.

How do you stop fence panels rattling?

The easiest and most effective way to reduce rattling sounds coming from your fence panels is to insert wooden wedges or plastic fence packers into any post grooves, try attaching clips or brackets to keep the panel held tightly, insert rubber strips or foam tape into the grooves for added cushioning, or replace any warped or shrunk panels if you notice gaps. Make sure to regularly inspect the posts to ensure they’re not loose.

Do acoustic fence panels work?

Yes, acoustic fence panels are favourable for reducing unwanted sound (around 50-15 dB), but it’s important to note that they won’t make your garden silent. You can expect traffic or nearby noise from neighbours to be noticeably quieter.
