What are loppers?
Loppers are a long, two-handed gardening tool which is used to remove branches and stems from trees and other plants to clear overgrown or untidy areas of a garden.
Can you sharpen loppers?
Yes, you can sharpen loppers to ensure they can effectively cut through tougher branches. To sharpen garden loppers, start by cleaning them with a wire brush before sanding the blades to remove any rust. Next, place the loppers in a vice for stability and use a metal file to sharpen the curved side of the blade, working towards the tip.
How do you use loppers?
To use loppers, start by placing your hands at the bottom of the loppers. Next, hold the loppers away from the body and open the blades by separating the handles. To cut the branch, bring the two handles back together, closing the blades and slicing through the branch. If you’re unable to cleanly cut through the branch using loppers, a stronger tool such as a chainsaw may be needed.
For safety, ensure you’re wearing workwear gloves to protect your hands.
