How to pot a plant?

1. Start by choosing the right plant pot. Make sure it’s slightly larger than the current one and has drainage holes at the bottom to prevent water from sitting in the soil. Cover the drainage holes with a small layer of gravel or broken crocks to help with drainage.
2. Add a layer of fresh, suitable compost for your plant type into the pot.
3. Carefully remove the plant from its existing pot, gently loosening the roots if they are tightly packed.
4. Place the plant in the new pot so it sits at the same soil level as before, then fill around it with compost, firming it down lightly to remove air pockets.
5. Water the plant thoroughly after potting to help it settle into its new home. If the soil sinks after watering, you can top it up a little.
