1. Keep Autumn leaves in check

Now is the perfect time to get the garden tidied before the colder weather sets in - sweep up those fallen leaves with this general purpose garden broom or save yourself some time and invest in a Flymo Blow Vac so no leaf is left unturned.

2. Take a bird’s eye view of your roof

With all those leaves falling off the trees, your gutters might also be a tad full - reach them with ease on this Youngman domestic extension ladder and clean them out. Whilst you’re up there, check and replace any damaged tiles or worn out roof felt to prevent heat loss and water sneaking into your loft during the Autumnal months ahead.

3. Clear and protect gutters and drainpipes

you live in a lovely leafy area and your gutters are truly blocked, you might need to head down to Wickes for some drain rods to help clear them and even consider preventative action with leaf guards. Blocked drain pipes and silted gutters can cause water to enter your roof space damaging ceilings and walls, so better safe than sorry!

4. Build yourself a firepit

It may be getting cooler, but one way you can extend your time in the garden is by building a firepit. Embrace the season with an extra layer and marshmallows in hand - it’s never been easier with our ‘How To’ guide that will show you just how easy it is to DIY.

These days, not only do you have a wide choice of fade- resisting colours, but also formulations that are harmless to plants and animals when dry, so you don’t have to pick green to be kind!

Keep all your tools and garden essentials protected and safe now that the days begin to get shorter by storing them in a locked shed. Wickes has a great range to choose from, but one of our favourites is the Forest Garden Apex Overlap Windowless shed. It’s nice and compact with no windows so your favourite garden gear won’t be on display.

7. Step up your security

Thankfully, it’s also easy to install: How To Fit a Yale Alarm.

8. MOT your radiators

Make sure your radiators are firing on all cylinders before the cold weather kicks in. Test various thermostat settings and if they’re not up to scratch, it might be time to bleed your radiators or even look for a replacement. Wickes’ radiators are not only a great feature but also practical - with a wide range of designer radiators, keeping warm has never been so stylish!
