FAQs
Should joist hangers be nailed or screwed?
You can use either nails or screws, but it's important to use the appropriate type. Galvanised nails are commonly used, but screws designed for structural use can provide a stronger hold and are often easier to install and adjust.
Do joist and truss hangers prevent damp ingress?
While joist and truss hangers don't prevent damp ingress, they help maintain proper spacing and ventilation, which can reduce moisture build-up. Using treated timber and ensuring good airflow are key to preventing damp.
How do you use mini joist hangers?
Mini joist hangers are great for smaller projects or tight spaces. Simply attach the hanger to the supporting beam using the pre-drilled holes, then slot your joist into the hanger and secure it with nails or screws through the sides.
