The natural durability and stunning appearance of solid wood flooring also makes it a popular choice for homes across the nation. Real wood flooring can still be refinished, is easy to clean and can even add value to your property, making it a win all around.

FAQs

What is engineered wooden flooring?

Engineered wood flooring is a multi-layered wood flooring construction where a smooth veneered top layer of solid wood is bonded to under-core base layers, offering advanced stability and improved water resistance.

This innovative technology makes engineered flooring an excellent option for areas where temperature and humidity changes often occur, such as your kitchen, conservatory or basement.

How do you clean engineered wood floors?

Cleaning your engineered wood floor is a simple task, however it’s important to ensure that you take extra care to avoid damaging your floor. Start by sweeping or vacuuming any debris, ensuring your brush or vacuum has soft bristles to avoid scratches. Next, use a lightly damp mop and a pH-neutral cleaner to clean the floor, ensuring the engineered wood is fully dry once clean.

How do you lay engineered wood flooring?

It’s simple to lay engineered wood flooring with the simple click-and-fit laying system, which can be installed over most clean, dry and level subfloors. If your subfloors need a little extra attention or your current underlay needs refreshing, we have a wide range of engineered wood flooring underlays to choose from.

What thickness underlay for engineered wood flooring?

Most engineered wood flooring requires an underlay of 2-5mm. As a guideline, 2-3mm is firmer and stable, whereas 5mm is effective for sound reduction or minor subfloor smoothing. You should always check your specific flooring’s recommendations as too thick underlay can cause issues with movement.

How much is wood flooring?

Wood flooring varies in price, especially when looking at both engineered and solid wood floors. Our prices start at £23 per m2 for engineered wood; naturally, solid options are of a higher price range due to their quality and authenticity.

Is wood flooring or laminate easier to install?

Generally, laminate is known for being easier to install as most variations use a simple click-lock system, it’s easier to cut and it’s easier to handle from being lighter. Solid wood requires precision in fitting, specialist tools and specific adhesion, and engineered wood floors sit in-between in difficulty, but is likely more challenging than installing laminate.

Can you install wood flooring over tile?

Yes, it’s possible to install wood flooring on top of tile, as long as the tiling is clean, dry and level.
