How long does a plastic shed last?

Usually, a high quality plastic shed can last between 10-20 years or even more, depending on how much care they get. While they’re resistant to rot, rust and insect damage, consistent exposure to UV rays can cause fading or brittleness.

Do plastic sheds need a base?

Yes, it’s recommended that you install a plastic shed on a stable, level base. Options include a concrete slab, paving slabs or a compatible plastic shed base, which all reduce the risk of the shed shifting, sinking or becoming uneven.

Do plastic sheds get condensation?

Yes, they can. Plastic sheds are fantastic in keeping water inside, just as they are keeping water outside. This is because they’re not a breathable material, but there are ways that you can prevent water build-up. For instance, caulking the base or installing a membrane.

Are plastic sheds better than wood sheds?

It depends on what you’d value most in a shed. Plastic is much more resistant to rot, rust and insect damage, and it also requires less maintenance. However, wood sheds are much more sturdy and can be customised to look exactly how you’d like.

Can I put a plastic shed on grass?

Yes, it's possible to put install your shed on grass, but it's not recommended. Ideally, you should opt for a solid, level base as grass can become wet and uneven, potentially causing your shed to shift.

Can you put a hot tub in a plastic shed?

No, you shouldn't store your hot tub in a plastic shed, unless it's a blow-up version and is deflated. Full hot tubs can become very heavy, meaning they require a strong, robust base. There's also the lack of ventilation, likelihood of condensation build up, and access limitations.

Can you put electric in a plastic shed?

Yes, but it'll need to be properly installed by a qualified electrician as outdoor electric works need to meet specific UK electrical regulations and need protection against moisture.

Can you put shelves in a plastic shed?

Yes, but usually freestanding shelving options are best because a plastic shed's walls aren't strong enough to support heavy loads.

Can you store logs in a plastic shed?

Yes, as long as there's enough ventilation. Fresh or damp logs release moisture which could cause condensation to build up and eventually mould to grow in an enclosed shed. If they're seasoned and dry, pop them on the floor and allow airflow. If your shed has limited ventilation, consider a log store.
